Down 6 Pounds Total So Far!

Great day today, went shopping for a new weight scale (hello Homedics Bamboo digital scale! Goodbye ancient old fashioned scale!) I also went with mom to the local farmers market and got bell peppers, Hungarian sweet peppers, heirloom tomatoes, spaghetti squash, lemon cucumbers, and green beans. Then we went to the local history museum to check out their new exhibit. After that it was time for lunch (already had the mixed berry cereal, three cups of coffee, and a peanut butter bar) so we went to Chicago Fire pizza....and each got a small house salad, no croutons, with grilled chicken, and vinaigrette on the side. Yes it was excellent! We walked around the old town doing some shopping before we went to the local higher end grocery store for some Boca burgers, scallions, white button mushrooms, and green cauliflower. After walking around for a total of 2 miles in downtown we were both tired and ready to go home after the supermarket. (Wow, we used to get tired after a 4 mile walk before this diet started!) Shortly after getting home I had my Smores bar and then prepped veggies for my dinner (bell pepper, Hungarian sweet pepper, mushrooms, and olives for a cheddar/veggie omelet) well, my dinner was supposed to be an omelet, apparently I forgot how to make one, well whatever it was it tasted really good though! I just have my chocolate chip cookie left to enjoy later today.

First 3 Pounds

I've been on the Medifast system (modified for my gout) for 4 days now and am down 3 pounds so far. I'm holding my excitement due to the first 5-10 pounds tend to be water weight and it takes 2-3 days to get into keitosis. However I did want to do a summary of my first few days since I didn't start this blog immediately. I am going through the local Medifast office for this adventure so I have alot of accountability on losing (or not) weight. Oh yes, and a "before picture" although this picture is several years old it's still fairly relevant, I've only lost 10 pounds on my own since the picture was taken:

As you can see I'm not gigantic, however I'm not skinny either! (I'm the Starfleet officer amongst the Klingons (what can I say? They throw better parties!)

Day One:
HUNGRY!! I had the mixed berry cereal (nasty!) and a cup and a half of coffee for breakfast, a Medifast Smores bar for second breakfast, I made a tuna nicoise salad (canned in water tuna, red bell pepper, celery, green olives, mixed green lettuce with a tablespoon of homemade vinegrette dressing for lunch. (Olive oil, red wine vinegar, herbs.) Second lunch entailed a Dutch Chocolate shake, dinner was nuked salmon and green beans (canned and lots of them), dessert was a soft baked Chocolate Chip cookie. I drank five bottles of water this day and regretted drinking three of them during work! The Medifast food was not bad, the smores bar was fantastic though. However I was hungry throughout the day, of course I did not have the hearty breakfast I'm used to (big bowl of granola cereal with a banana.)

Day Two:
I was peckish the whole day through, but it was tolerable. I had the mixed berry cereal (not so bad) and a cup and a half of coffee for breakfast, a Medifast Peanut Butter bar for second breakfast, I made a vegetarian chef salad (boiled egg, sliced low fat provolone cheese, red bell pepper, celery, black olives, and mixed green lettuce for lunch. For second lunch I had a Dutch Chocolate shake (with a shot of espresso to get me through my work shift), dinner was boiled chicken with tomatoes and celery, dessert was a soft baked Chocolate Chip cookie. I drank four bottles of water today. I was feeling better this day, although walking past the cooking bacon that morning was a true challenge.

Day Three:
I was not hungry at all this day, and all the Medifast meals tasted fantastic (terrifying I know, I like diet food, but as they say, "hunger is the best sauce".) The breakfast was mixed berry cereal and two cups of coffee, Smores bar for second breakfast. Lunch was a nice chicken (leftover), cheddar cheese (not enough chicken), red bell pepper, celery, black olives, and romaine lettuce, second lunch was the Dutch Chocolate shake with an espresso shot, dinner was lamb chops with sauteed kale (have I mentioned I love this diet?) The Chocolate Chip cookie was dessert again. I had someone offer me several slices of pizza which I politely declined. (Although it looked fantastic!) I drank 3 bottles of water this day (I was very busy).

These three days I was working as a barista and averaged 5,000 steps a day (not enough time to add to the exercise regimen.).

Day Four:
Gotta love day offs! After sleeping in I had mixed berry cereal and two cups of coffee for breakfast, peanut butter bar for second breakfast, for lunch it was lamb chops and broccoli, second lunch was a Smores bar, dinner was cottage cheese, cucumbers, green beans, and tomatoes with some balsamic vinaigrette, and of course the Chocolate Chip cookie for dessert. Today I walked 1.5 miles to the local movie theater and watched The Family, then walked 1.5 miles back home. I also drank four bottles of water.
